Gerhard Gröbner: Protein-Lipid Assemblies Involved in Diseases
Virtually every biological process proceeds via membranes and their constituents. Therefore, my main research focus on the molecular aspects of the function and malfunction of membrane complexes with biological macromolecules.
In particular, I apply biophysical techniques centered around biological solid state NMR to elucidate:
i) Membrane-mediated aggregation of amyloidogenic proteins involved in Alzheimer and ALS diseases;
ii) Structure/Function of integral membrane proteins;
iii) Antiapoptotic action of mitochondrial Bcl-2 Proteins.
